FF Radon have been a leading contractor in the service of providing ground gas (carbon dioxide and methane) and vapour protection systems. Guidance in Ireland for these risks is currently limited with the most relevant guidance available being UK guidance; BS8485: 2015 + A1: 2019 and various CIRIA guidance documents. There has also been recently updated guidance for NHBC sites in NF94: Hazardous Ground Gas – An essential guide for housebuilders. These documents set out the process of site characterisation and protection measures methodology and design. FF Radon provide:
- Ground Gas Protection Solution Proposal Reports
- Setting out the risk to the development and receptors from in line with site investigation material carried out by others;
- Providing a detailed protection solution using ventilation systems, gas membrane installation and floor slabs; and
- Supplying site specific detailed drawings.
- Full Design Services
- If required FF Radon can arrange a full design with an independent environmental engineering consultancy;
- They will provide a design report, installation requirements, verification strategy, and detailed site-specific drawings and layouts; and
- Covered by €1.3/£1m design specific professional indemnity.
- Installation Quality
- FF Radon team leaders hold NVQ L2 qualifications in gas membrane installation and TWI CSWIP qualifications in plastic membrane welding techniques to provide our clients with industry recognised competency markers;
- All other FF Radon operatives are working towards NVQ L2 qualifications when they begin work with the company; and
- FF Radon insist on the highest standards of installation, professionalism, and punctuality from all our staff to ensure our service is second to none.
- Verification
- FF Radon promote the use of independent verification on all sites and can arrange this through an independent environmental engineering consultancy;
- Independent verification of a ground gas protection system is a requirement in line with BS8485 and CIRIA C735. The verification strategy and report are used by regulators to discharge planning conditions and also to satisfy structural warranty providers;
- The verification process should be managed by a fully independent and suitably qualified and accredited company;
- When asked to arrange verification, FF Radon will only engage with CL:AIRE accredited consultancies who can provide declarations of compliance through the Gas Protection Verification System (GPVS) that CL:AIRE operate;
- Some gas membrane installers will arrange verification through side companies or membrane manufacturers which is not good practice and puts the client at risk ultimately.
- FF Radon have no concerns in our installation work being professionally and independently scrutinised and encourage this transparency.
